How to Locate an Ignition Control Module
The ignition control module of your vehicle is located inside the distributor housing in the engine compartment and is designed to monitor and regulate the ignition coil's firing time. The control module is a small black plastic chip with six wires attached to the body. The ignition control module looks very similar to a computer chip and can be removed with just a few common household tools.

Open the vehicle hood and locate the distributor on the driver's side of the engine compartment. The distributor is a black cylindrical part toward the back of the engine, near the firewall.

Remove the distributor cap by unfastening the metal clips on the side of the cap by hand and lifting the cap off the distributor.

Locate the Ignition Control Module on the inside of the distributor housing.

Tips & Warnings
To avoid burns, always let the engine cool down before attempting to remove or replace the ignition control module.
