How to Do a 6th Grade Book Report

Always allow yourself enough time to finish the novel before the report due date.

Writing a book report is an excellent way to analyze and understand a book. The traditional book report for sixth grade is divided up into subheadings that are used to describe different areas of the book. A book report should only contain a brief summary --- the bulk of the report should be geared toward analysis. Before you start your book report, always check with your teacher to find out what are her expectations.

Instructions

1. Select a book to read that will captivate your interest. Your teacher might also assign a specific book for you to read.

2. Spend time reading the book. Your teacher might allow you time to read in class, or you might have to do the majority of your reading at home. Try setting a goal every night to ensure you finish your book on time.

3. Start writing the report. The traditional book report is divided into different headings where you describe the book you just read. You always should speak with your teacher to find out what her expectations are for the report, as there are many options besides the traditional book report.

4. Write each subheading. If your teacher has not given you any subheadings, you should start with a brief plot summary. Next, describe the characters in the book --- be sure to talk about who was your favorite character and why. You can dedicate another subheading to the setting of the book as well as any themes you might have noticed. Finish with your overall rating of the book and discuss who you might recommend this book to.

5. Complete the book report by creating a title page. The title page should have your name, the date, the title and author of the book, the date the book was published and the number of pages.
