How to Make Wings for a Bumble Bee Costume
Bumble bee costumes can be used as Halloween costumes, in school plays or for pretend play when children are interacting with each other and dressing up. Making wings for the bumble bee costume adds an extra layer of reality to the costume and allows children to pretend to fly. The wings will not get in the way of a child's arms and accidentally obstruct movement because they will be placed on the back where the child cannot reach them.
Things You'll Need
- Marker
- 2 sheets stiff felt (white or yellow in color)
- 1 sheet yellow felt
- 2 strips of elastic
- Glue gun and hot glue
- Scissors
Instructions
-
-
1
Draw two large tear drops that will look like the top parts of the wings on two pieces of felt.
-
2
Cut the tear drops out of the pieces of felt using your scissors.
-
-
3
Draw a shape like a football on the yellow felt. This shape will be smaller than the two wings.
-
4
Cut out the football shape with your scissors. Cut out a 1-by-3-inch rectangle from the leftover yellow felt.
-
5
Cut two lengths of elastic that are12 inches long and 1/4 inch wide.
-
6
Place the football piece of felt on a flat surface. Glue the two teardrop pieces of felt onto the football piece of felt. The pointed tips of the two teardrops should be attached near the middle of the football shape.
-
7
Loop each 12-inch piece of elastic so that both ends are brought together and glue them to form a circle. Glue one end of each elastic loop the center of the football-shape felt.
-
8
Glue the rectangle to the football shape so that it hides the edges of the wings and the elastic. Give the glue between 10 to 15 minutes to dry. Have your child put their arms through the elastic so he can wear the bumble bee wings in the same way he would wear a back pack or bag on his back.
