How to Receive a Doctorate Online
A doctorate is an advanced degree. Generally, someone who earns their doctorate degree conducts extensive research, writes articles and papers for scholarly journals. Earning a doctorate degree today is possible online for most areas of concentration. The exception to this rule is for a medical degree, which requires a lot of in-person and hands-on training in addition to the classroom work.

Work with a counselor to create your class schedule for the first semester. Once you are accepted to an online doctorate program, a counselor is assigned to help you create your schedule so you can complete each class and graduate from the program on time. Most online doctorate programs have set schedules for each semester so that you complete the classes in the necessary order.

Verify how to log in to your student account online to obtain your course syllabi, attend lectures online and submit your homework assignments. You should receive this information from the college along with the website where you need to go to log in to your account.

Obtain the syllabus for each of your classes and buy any hard copy textbooks or resources you need to complete the class. Once you log in to your account, you should be able to log in to each of your classes individually to read the syllabus for the class and any notes or instructions your professor leaves for you.

Complete the coursework according to the schedule. You should log on to your lectures, complete and submit research projects and homework according to the schedule set by each professor and each syllabus.

Complete and pass the comprehensive exam at the end of your course completion. The online university or college will schedule a time and place in your local community to take a comprehensive exam that covers information you have learned and studied over the course of completing your degree. Typically, it is at a local school or testing center. You can only sit for the exam once you have passed all of your classes. Once you pass the exam will will receive your doctorate degree in the mail.

When identifying online doctorate programs be sure the colleges or universities are accredited. You have to obtain a doctorate degree from an accredited educational institution in order for it to be accepted by many employers.
The typical online graduate programs take three to four years to complete.
