Taking screen captures of your PS3 games is also a great way to supplement blog posts, articles or other media you might be developing. In any case, using a computer and video capture card, saving images and even video from PS3 gaming sessions gives you the flexibility to choose just the right frame to display your prowess.

Instructions

      Install your video capture card into your computer following the manufacturer's instructions. Ensure that your computer meets the video capture card's minimum system requirements before purchasing.

      Install the video capture/editing software included with your video capture card onto your computer, as well as any necessary drivers, by following the manufacturer's instructions.

      Connect your PlayStation 3 console's audio/video cables to your audio/video splitter inputs. Connect one of the two outputs to the video capture card, and the other output to your television.

      Start the video capture/editing software on your computer and turn on your PlayStation 3. Click the "Record" button on your video capture/editing software when you are ready to capture your image from your game, and press the "Record" button again once you have capture video including the image you want.

      Replay the captured video, and press the "Pause" button on the video frame you wish to save as an image. Make the video full screen, and press the "prt scrn" button on your computer keyboard.

      Open Microsoft Paint, or any other image or photo editing software, and press "ctrl" and "V" at the same time to use the "Paste" function, which will insert the image into the software.

      Crop the image as desired, and save it to an easy-to-find location on your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • In some cases, the video editing software included with your video capture card will have its own ability to take a screen shot from video footage. See your user manual for more details.

  • If your video capture card does not support HD video capture, you will be limited to taking standard definition images from your PS3. Consider this when selecting your video capture card. Additionally, your video splitter must also support the same definition as the video capture card will be using.
