1
Organize your Olympiad materials. It's crucial to have everything you need in one place. Invest in a binder or folder or use an old one from last year.
-
2
Use time outside of the Olympiad weekly meeting to practice math problems. Even doing two or three problems on your own will help develop stronger thinking skills. Check your practice problems with your teacher.
-
-
3
Use scratch paper to work out problems and use as much as you need. Don't feel silly because someone else can do the problem in his head. Do what works well for you.
-
4
Don't cheat. Work out the individual problems yourself and ask for your teacher's help if you need it. If you don't struggle through the problem without cheating, your math skills won't improve.
-
5
Take the tests you miss as soon as you can. Your teacher won't be allowed to report your score, but taking a missed test will benefit your future test-taking by giving you the practice.
-
6
Dissect your errors. Go over each problem you got wrong and figure out what was incorrect about your answer and how you got it. Write the explanation next to the missed problem and go over it during your practice time.
