Reward yourself after practice sessions.

Great guitarists are not only talented, but they also are motivated to learn and perfect their craft. The first step on the road toward becoming an accomplished guitarist is to get motivated. Once you become motivated, you must keep your motivation up in order to progress and grow. There are multiple ways in which you can lift yourself out of boredom and complacency and cause yourself to want to become a better musician.

Instructions

    • 1

Listen to music that you want to be able to play one day. Hearing musical techniques and styles can motivate you to learn how to reproduce these feats.

    • 2

Play with other musicians as often as possible. Other guitarists can offer you tips and insights. Playing live music with other people is exciting and stimulating.

    • 3

Create specific goals for learning the guitar. For short-term goals, plan exactly how often you will practice and for how long. For long-term goals, decide where you would like your ability level to be in a month or a year.

    • 4

Reward yourself for accomplishing your goals. Even simple rewards such as watching a movie or having a snack after practicing for 1 hour can keep you motivated.

    • 5

Share your plans with others and ask them to encourage you toward your guitar playing goals.
