How to Input Into an iPod

The accessories that come with an iPod allow users to quickly import data from their computers. Media files and applications can be transferred via a USB sync. First-generation iPod users can not add applications to their iPod. Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to conduct the file transfer and update your iPod with the latest software, if necessary. You can customize which songs you want to keep on your computer and which media files you want to access on your iPod.

Insert the USB cord that came with your iPod into your device then into your computer. Once your computer recognizes that a device is attached, a balloon will pop up in your task bar. If you are using a Mac, a chime indicates that new hardware is attached and configured. iTunes will open and prompt you to back up your files.

Click the tabs containing the data you want to sync to your iTunes. The items on the sync menu for an iPod Touch have either a check box or a radio button that can be highlighted to indicate your selections. Older iPod models have the option to select which songs will be transferred. When you have chosen all the information you want to input into your iPod, click "Sync" in the bottom right-hand corner of your iTunes screen window.
