How to Make Flubber at Home

Plain white glue forms the basis of flubber.

Flubber is a stretchy, gooey substance that is somewhere between a liquid and a solid. First popularized in a 1960s Disney children's movie about a scientist who invents the substance in a lab, Flubber is a stretchy, bouncy putty. Creating flubber at home is a quick and inexpensive craft project sure to delight kids who enjoy getting their hands messy. All the necessary ingredients are sold at grocery stores and pharmacies. Kids can also customize their flubber by coloring it with food coloring.

Things You'll Need

• Borax
• Water
• White glue
• 2 bowls
• Spoon
• Measuring cup
• Teaspoon
• Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

1. Pour 1/2 cup of warm water into a bowl.

2. Add 2 tsp. of borax and stir it until it dissolves.

3. Pour 3/4 cup of water and 1 cup of white glue into another bowl and stir to mix. Add a few drops of food coloring if you want to make colored flubber.

4. Pour the borax mixture into the glue mixture.

5. Reach in and knead the mixture with your hands until the flubber begins to form. Small pieces will form instantly, but to create a large ball of flubber you may have to knead for a minute or two.
