How to Craft a Magnifying Glass

How to Craft a Magnifying Glass thumbnail
Water is a natural magnifier.

If you want to craft a magnifying glass in a hurry, you just need a few simple materials. You may then use your crafted magnifying glass to enlarge objects for a detailed inspection. Crafting a magnifying glass also serves as a way to teach your children about the magnifying properties of water to concentrate sunlight and heat a surface or start a fire.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a zipper bag halfway full with water. Be careful not to get any water on the outside of the bag.

    • 2

Seal the bag tightly and use a dry towel to completely dry off any water on the outside of the bag.

    • 3

Hold the bag up to the surface you want to inspect and look through the water to the other side. The water will enlarge any item you look at so you can view the item in detail.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use a glass as a magnifying glass as well, instead of the zipper bag. Just fill the glass half way and look through the side of the glass to the other side, while placing the glass next to an object.
