How to Write a Video Report

Save

It may be difficult to know where to start when writing a video report. The subject's many possible themes, as well as the potential perspectives the audience regards them with, contribute to the writer's confusion. Luckily, writing a proper video report is not as complicated as it may seem and can usually be mastered with a little bit of self-confidence.

  • Create an outline. It does not need to be lengthy and elaborate; rather, focus on summarizing the essential ideas of your report. Your outline should include a thesis statement as well as two to five main points that represent the subject's main components. This is the most essential part of writing a successful video report, so be sure to think it through carefully.

  • Describe the setting in which the most important events unfolded. Depending on the nature of the topic, you may need to give your audience some background information on the location's significance. Be sure to be as objective as possible, especially if the setting is unclear or seems irrelevant.

  • Describe the people who played a part in the piece. You do not need to provide an elaborate description of everyone with the slightest relation to the story; focus instead on summarizing the role of the main characters. If applicable, explain the significance of groups as opposed to individuals.

  • Give a summary of the plot or main idea. What was the fundamental purpose? Describe the most important events of the story, especially the conflict and how it was or was not resolved. Be careful not to let your opinion rule this section of your report; this will lessen the credibility of your project.

  • Finish your project with a conclusion that summarizes the main elements of your report. Include a brief description of your personal perspective on the story and how you understood its significance. The report should close with an open-ended idea that encourages the audience to conduct further study.
