How to Make the Glaze for a Bachelor's Cake
Bachelor parties can take on many forms, depending on the bachelor and his friends. The best man is typically in charge of planning the bachelor party and making sure it is in line with the groom's interests and tastes. Ordering a cake from a cake decorator or caterer can be expensive, especially if you have envisioned a cake in a special shape or design. Making your own cake allows you to tailor the flavors to the groom's preferences. Chocolate is always a popular flavor, and hot buttered whiskey creates great flavor continuity if the party guests are already drinking whiskey.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup butter
- Mixing bowl
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- Wooden spoon
- Electric mixer
- 1/3 cup and 3 tbsp. whiskey
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 9 oz. bittersweet or semisweet chocolate
- Large knife or serrated knife
- 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
- Saucepan
- 1/2 cup whipping cream

Hot Buttered Whiskey Glaze
-
1
Let the butter sit at room temperature until it gives slightly when pressed. Add it to the mixing bowl along with the powdered sugar. Slowly combine the two ingredients with a wooden spoon. Scrape the sides of the bowl as you stir to make sure that all of the powdered sugar is incorporated into the mixture. Mix the two ingredients together with the electric mixer until you have a thick, even, creamy mixture.
-
2
Pour the whiskey and vanilla into the bowl, evenly distributing it over the mixture. Stir the liquids into the sugar mixture with a wooden spoon until they have been evenly distributed.

3
Store the glaze at room temperature until you are ready to glaze the cake. If there will be more than a half hour of time in between, refrigerate the glaze until 15 minutes before you will glaze the cake to keep it firm.
Chocolate Glaze
-
4
Chop the chocolate finely. If you are using a large hunk of chocolate, chop along one edge as if you are cutting off a sliver of chocolate. Use a serrated edge to shave the chocolate as your knife cuts through the block. If you have thin chocolate bars, cut them into pieces from above like you would cut through a sandwich. Put the chocolate pieces in the mixing bowl.

5
Add the corn syrup to the saucepan. Measure the whipping cream in the same measuring cup, swishing the cream around to dislodge any corn syrup that has stuck to the measuring cup. Pour the cream into the saucepan.
-
6
Set the saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir the corn syrup and cream with a wooden spoon to combine. Continue to heat the liquids until they are almost to the point of boiling without bubbling. Remove the pan from the stovetop.
-
7
Pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate. Whisk the chocolate into the cream until all of the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.

Tips & Warnings
When glazing the bachelor's cake, first spread only half of the glaze on the cake and smooth it out. Freeze the cake till the glaze has set, and then add the remaining glaze.
If you are making a particular design with the glaze, add food coloring after you have completely combined the other glaze ingredients.
Blending the glaze with an electric mixer yields a thicker glaze. Mix with a wooden spoon for a thinner glaze.
