Instructions

Separate your fondant icing into three sections. Knead black coloring into one section, green into the second and orange into the third. Roll out and use pumpkin cookie cutters to cut round sections from the orange dough. Section out eyes, noses and mouths from the black dough and green leaves and stems from the green dough with a sharp knife. Press these shapes where desired. Make sure your base icing is fondant as well for good adhesion. Appliques like this are easy to work with. You can remove them if you make a mistake

Thicken a buttercream frosting with extra confectioner's sugar for piping. Color with a paste. Create a large textured pumpkin that covers the entire surface with the star tip.

    • 3

Create a border of small royal icing pumpkins. Royal icing colors easily with pastes or gels. Make sure it retains its form for about 5 seconds before piping. This icing takes a good 24 hours to dry. Use a round tip to make your pumpkins and a ruffle tip to connect them.
