Cake is often the dessert of choice for birthdays, anniversaries and other parties. Cakes come in many shapes, sizes and styles, but one thing they all have in common is that they must be baked before you enjoy them. A cake pan is the standard vessel to bake a cakes, but it defeats the purpose if you leave half the cake on the bottom of the tray. Lining a pan will help you avoid burning the cake's bottom and provide an easy release when it is ready. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Parchment paper or wax paper
  • Scissors
  • Knife

Instructions

      Fold in half a long piece of wax or parchment paper that is at least as wide as your round cake pan.

      Turn the pan upside down and position the point of one folded corner in the center of the pan. Hold the center in place and fold the paper in half, then quarters, then eighths, so the paper resembles a wedge of cake with the pointed bit right at the center of the pan.

      Cut the paper off that overhangs the edge of the pan, following the contour of the pan. Unfold the paper and it should be the right size to fit into the pan.

      Place the paper in the pan, add your batter and put it in the oven.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can grease or flour the bottom the pan, before you place the liner in if you like.

  • For a square or rectangular pan, just place the pan on a cutting board under the liner and trace around it with your knife to get the right size.
