How to Use Bluetooth to Listen in on a Phone

A Bluetooth headset allows users to remain connected to their mobile phones wirelessly using a radio signal that transfers data between the two devices. Once the phone and the headset are connected, users can make and receive hands-free calls. This technology makes it safer to drive a car, multitask around the house or ensure you don't miss a call looking for your phone. To use a Bluetooth headset, your phone must have a Bluetooth adapter installed.

Instructions

Turn on the Bluetooth adapter in your mobile phone. The process is the same in most phones. Select "Menu," then "Settings" or "Options" and "Bluetooth." Select the option to turn on Bluetooth. Check your owner's manual for more detailed instructions. Leave the Bluetooth screen open.

Turn on the Bluetooth headset. Many Bluetooth headsets use the same procedure to turn on Bluetooth communications. Press the "On" button, then hold down the "Bluetooth" button until the Bluetooth icon lights up. Refer to your manual for model-specific instructions.

Select the Bluetooth headset on the Bluetooth screen on the mobile phone. Once Bluetooth is activated on both devices, the mobile phone will be able to pick up the signal from the headset. If applicable, enter the passkey or pairing code for the headset on the screen. Refer to the headset's user manual for the pairing code. Once entered correctly, the phone and headset connect.
