How to Install a Clutch on a 91 Honda Civic
The clutch assembly allows you to operate your 1991 Honda Civic. Depressing the clutch pedal disconnects the engine from the wheels through the use of a pressure plate and clutch disc. The drive axle is lifted off of its gear in the transmission by the clutch assembly long enough for you to manually manipulate the drive gears. When the clutch pedal comes back down the drive axle is placed on a new gear of your choosing. Install a new clutch in your 1991 Honda Civic when shifting becomes erratic.

Slide the clutch disc onto the dowel pins coming off the flywheel. Slide the pressure plate onto the same dowel pins on top of the clutch disc. Insert the clutch disc alignment tool into the hole in the center of the pressure plate.

Use a torque wrench to secure the 1.25 millimeter mounting bolts to the clutch disc assembly. There are six mounting bolts sitting at approximately 12, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o'clock on the clutch disc assembly face. Tighten the bolts two turns at a time starting with 12 o'clock, move to 6 o'clock, then 10 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock, and finally 2 o'clock. Repeat this criss cross installation until there is 20 foot-pounds of torque in each of the mounting bolts. Do this to avoid warping the clutch disc assembly.
