Your fish finder could help you land the Big One.

You may want to install a fish finder into your pontoon boat if you are getting "skunked," as anglers would say. The fish finder gives you the opportunity to scout out schools of fish. Their bodies appear as tiny specs on the fish finder, offering you the best chance at snagging one of the fish. The fish finder will also track debris floating around underneath, and most come with a depth finder, letting anglers know how much line they can let off their reels.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the bracket from the fish finder.

    • 2

Place you bracket on the boat at the location you want your fish finder. A popular location is near the steering wheel. Trace with your pencil the bracket holes onto your boat.

    • 3

      Drill out the holes.

    • 4

Install your bracket onto the surface with the bolts and nuts that came with your fish finder.

    • 5

Slide your fish finder onto your bracket.

    • 6

Plug the wires that came with the finder into the unit. Two wires should be exiting the plugs. One is for the power supply and the other is to be connected to the bottom of your boat.

    • 7

Run a wire to the power supply. Throw one to the outside of the boat. You can hide these wires by placing them under any carpeting you might have.

    • 8

Drill pilot holes through your mounting bracket and into the boat's accessories tab. The accessories tab is located on one or more pontoons at the bottom side of the boat.

    • 9

Attach your mounting bracket to your accessories tab with the screws that were provided with your fish finder.

    • 10

Attach your transducer to your mounting bracket by snapping it into place.

    • 11

Connect your wires to your battery. Match them appropriately with the negative to the negative and the positive to the positive.

    • 12

Turn on the fish finder. If it powers up, you have successfully installed it. Check the wires to the battery if the power isn't on. You could have placed the wires in backward.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fish finders use a lot of power, so you may want to install a separate battery.
