How to Make an Infant Clothing Rack
Preparing for baby's arrival is an exciting time for expecting parents. A well thought-out plan for the nursery involves creativity, safety precautions and a functional layout for baby and parents. One common feature in a baby's room is an infant clothing rack. It's a moderately easy do-it yourself project, depending on how detailed you want it. The size of the rack may vary, but a baby's room calls for a horizontal rack with five pegs. Parents can organize baby's clothing for the week or hang toys on it. Personalize and decorate the rack according to the theme of the room.

1
Place sheets of newspaper on the floor. Spray paint the front and back of the rack, coating all corners and edges. Allow four hours for a single coat of spray paint to dry; allow eight hours for two coats.
-
2
Choose pre-decorated, ready-to-use wooden animal shapes, and arrange them on the rack. Flip the wooden shapes with the decorated sides facing down. Apply a thin layer of glue with a glue gun around the back edges and in the center. Stick the shapes firmly to the rack. Do not move the rack until all of the wooden shapes are secured and the glue has completely dried.

3
Measure two strips of industrial-strength Velcro tape that will be placed left to right along the back of the rack. Place one strip along the top edge and the other along the bottom edge. Trim the Velcro tape so it does not fall over the sides, leaving a 1-inch gap from the edge of the rack.
-
4
Apply an adequate amount of Gorilla glue along the center back of one Velcro tape, and place it glue side down on the top edge of the rack. Hold firmly and apply pressure for one minute. Repeat for the second Velcro tape and place it on the bottom edge of the rack.
-
5
Determine where the rack will be mounted by holding it up to the wall and, in pencil, mark four points: one at each end of the strips of Velcro tape on the rack. Cut another two strips of Velcro tape the same length as the ones on the back of the rack.
-
6
Apply an adequate amount of Gorilla glue along the center back side of one strip of Velcro tape, and place it between the top two points on the wall. Hold and apply pressure for one minute. Repeat for the second Velcro tape, placing it between the bottom two points on the wall.
-
7
Place the rack in final position by lining up the Velcro tapes on the back of the rack to the Velcro tapes on the wall. Apply pressure, making sure the rack stays securely in place.

Tips & Warnings
Heavy-duty Velcro tape works well as an alternative for surfaces that cannot be drilled. Use a level, drill and screws to mount heavier racks.
Mount the infant clothing rack as high as possible to prevent a growing baby from reaching and pulling on clothing.
