"Call of Duty" is a first-person shooter video game that has versions available for both Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 game consoles. Both versions of the game also can take advantage of their respective systems online capabilities, allowing you to engage in deathmatches with players from all over the world. You just have to set up the multiplayer functionality of your copy of the game on your specific console.

  • Turn on your PlayStation 3 or your Xbox 360 (whichever you happen to be using). Log into your PlayStation Network account (if your console does not do so automatically) if you're using a PlayStation 3 or your Xbox Live account (if your console does not do so automatically) if you're on an Xbox 360.

  • Insert your "Call of Duty" game disc into your system. The game's menu loads.

  • Select "Multiplayer."

  • Choose "PlayStation Network" if you're on a PlayStation 3. Select "Xbox Live" if you're on an Xbox 360. Making this selection will load a screen featuring the various types of games you can play. Your options are "Player Match," "Private Match," "Wager Match," or "Combat Training."

  • Select your difficulty level. This will have an effect on how difficult it is to combat the non-player characters (also referred to as the "artificial intelligence") of the game. Finally, select ''Start Match" to begin playing your online game in "Call of Duty" with your respective system.
