How to Make Your Own Personal Fathead

Nothing says “I love you” like a supersized poster of your spouse or child hanging on the wall for all to see. Fathead, known for its life-size wall graphics featuring sports superstars, also allows customers to create custom Fatheads as large as 7 feet tall. Fatheads can be pricey, so until you are ready to fork over the cash, consider making your own custom Fathead poster. The result will not be as spectacular as the official product, but it’s definitely a start.

Things You'll Need

  • High-resolution photograph
  • Scanner
  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • PDF software
  • Printer
  • Adhesive

Official Custom Fathead

  • Visit the Fathead website and hover over the “Shop” button in the top menu. Click on “Create Your Custom Fathead.” Select “Start Vinyl Print” and upload a high-resolution photograph. If your photograph is not the correct size, you will receive a warning message.

  • Choose your Fathead size preference: jumbo, extra large, large or medium. Make note of the pricing difference for each size, located at the bottom of the screen. Select the “Cut out Background” option and enter any additional instructions. Click “Add to Cart” and review the details on the following page.

  • Continue the checkout process by entering your full name, email address, shipping address and credit card information. Expect the custom Fathead to arrive in a little over two weeks.

Homemade Custom Fathead

  • Visit a website featuring free poster-making software and upload your image. Images under one megabyte in size work best.

  • Choose how many pages wide you would like your custom Fathead to be. As you add more pages, you should see an update as to how large the Fathead will be when it is complete.

  • Download the PDF file that contains all the pages for your new Fathead once you are satisfied with the size of your image. Turn on your printer and print the file. Make sure you keep the pages in order.

  • Trim the white edges and any additional background off the image. Attach the individual pages directly to the wall with double-sided tape, or connect the pages together first with glue or any other preferred adhesive, and then hang on the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prior to printing your homemade custom Fathead, be sure you have enough printer ink.
  • If you are printing a high quantity of pages, consider saving the PDF file to a disk and printing it at a local copy and print shop.
