By passing the selection board, you can become an Air National Guard officer.

Serving as an officer in the Air National Guard is a highly coveted duty. This means that the process of securing a position is highly competitive. Candidates must first pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test and flight candidates must pass the Test of Basic Aviation Skills. Once you have passed your examination or examinations, you may secure an interview with the selection board.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice interviewing with a colleague. Be sure to go over every possible question and prepare answers for challenging questions. Be able to account for every year of work.

Bring all necessary resume material. This way, you can drill yourself prior to the interview and you will have it with you if an interviewer asks you a specific question about your career.

    • 2

Dress appropriately for the interview. Make sure that your uniform is pressed and that every detail of your wardrobe is perfect. If you have been putting off getting a haircut, now is the time to get to the barber shop or beautician. The military is a highly conservative environment, so leave the dangling earrings at home. Your appearance should be such that your intelligence and knowledge make an impression, not embellishments of your appearance.

    • 3

When interviewing, behave in a professional manner. Tell the interviewers why you want to serve in the Air National Guard. You probably have a desire to serve your country. However, the interviewers know that military officers use their skills in a civilian setting, where they often make excellent salaries. Be honest about your career goals and your desire to make money.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get enough sleep the night before your interview.

  • Eat a light breakfast.
