How to Estimate Interior Painting Costs
One quick way to change the appearance of a room is to paint it. You could have a professional do the job, or you could save money and take on the task yourself. Estimating the costs of interior painting involves math and budgeting skills. Does this Spark an idea?

Measure the height and width of each wall in the room and multiply them. Add the totals to get the square footage that you will need to cover with paint. For example, a 12 by 12 room with four equal walls measures 12 by 12 = 144; 144 times four. The total is 576 square feet of wall space to be covered.

Select the type of paint and color that you would like to use and compare prices at local hardware stores. Each paint will say on the label how many square feet you can expect to cover. Ask a sales associate for advice on number of coats. Using the prior example of 576 square feet to be covered, you would need two gallons of paint that cover 600 square feet to paint two coats.

Take an inventory of supplies that you have and list ones that you will need. Include items such as rollers, brushes, tape, drop cloth and drip pans.

Add the cost for paint and supplies to get the estimate for each room you plan on painting.

Take seperate measurements for each room and include the ceiling if you plan on painting it also.
