Hanging Necklace Storage

Hanging Necklace Storage thumbnail
Don't let your necklaces become a tangled mess.

A necklace is an easy way to dress up and complete an outfit. Sooner or later storage of the fashion accessory becomes a problem. There are many types of jewelry boxes available to keep all of the jewelry in one place, but sooner or later the number of necklaces stored in the box outgrows the space. This makes it harder to find the necklace wanted and adds to the chance that it will get tangled up in other jewelry. The solution is to have a place to hang the necklaces so that they are easy to see and won't get tangled. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 12 to 18 inch long 1/4 inch diameter dowel
  • 2 feet of decorative cord
  • Glue gun
  • Decorative hook

Instructions

    • 1

Tie one end of the decorative rope or cord around each end of the dowel. Keep it in place by dabbing hot glue to the underside of the cord.

    • 2

Install the decorative hook on to the back of a door or on a free area of a bathroom or bedroom wall. Choose a location that will be out of the way, yet easily accessible for easy access of the necklaces. If heavy necklaces will be hung from the rack, make sure the structure can support the combined weight.

    • 3

Slip the center of the decorative cord or rope over the hook. Adjust the height of the hanging necklace storage by fashioning a loop in the center. The loop is not meant to be used as the hanger, but to drape over one side.

A longer loop will raise the dowel, and it can be lowered by tightening the loop. Once the ideal hanging height has been decided, it can be made permanent by adding hot glue to the base of the loop.

    • 4

Close the clasp of the necklace if it has one. Lay the necklace over the dowel with the front of the necklace hanging down the back side.

    • 5

Bring the front of the necklace beneath the dowel, through the back of the hanging necklace. Gently pull the front of the necklace down to secure it onto the hanging necklace rack.

Tips & Warnings

  • Multiple hanging necklace racks can be staggered throughout the area when one rack isn't enough.

  • Use imagination when choosing the decorative cord or rope to make the hanging necklace rack decorative as well as functional.

  • Hang heavier necklaces in the center of the dowel to keep the hanging necklace rack as straight as possible. If one side is heavier than the other, the necklaces will slide down and become tangled.

  • Hot glue guns can reach temperatures high enough to cause injury. Keep the glue gun out of the reach of children.
