How to Manually Activate Cookies on a Webpage thumbnail
Cookies can remember what book titles you search and recommend you new books.

Cookies are text files that websites send to your Internet browser, which then stores and manages them. Cookies help websites to remember your preferences, such as language, or any specific products you searched for on the website. You have the option of blocking or allowing cookies from any and every site you visit; you can also manually activate cookies from specific websites, blocking all other sites from sending you cookies.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer. Click on the "Tools" icon, which has a picture of a gear next to it, on the top left-hand side of the page. Scroll down and click "Internet Options."

    • 2

Click on the "Privacy" tab at the top of the screen. Click on the gray horizontal bar on the screen and move it up or down the privacy setting scale. Placing the bar in the middle of the scale sets security to the recommended "medium" setting. This setting will block certain cookies from being sent to your browser and allow others.

    • 3

Click the "Sites" button on the left-hand side of the "Privacy" tab's screen. Type in the address of a website from which you want to block or allow cookies. Click the "Allow" or "Block" button, based on your preference for that site. Click "OK." Repeat this process to add or block other sites from sending cookies to your browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also manually activate cookies in other browsers like Safari, Firefox and Chrome (see Resources).
