1
Measure the length and height of the roof to figure out how many pieces of metal roof edging will be needed. Record the measurements for each side of the house. Run a tape measure along each side to get the total amount of linear feet.
-
2
Climb up on a ladder to get on the roof. Lay out the first piece of metal roof edging beginning at either end of the roof. Nail it into the roof with 1 1/4-inch roofing nails every 12 inches. Continue down the entire first piece until all of the nails have been installed.

3
Line up the second piece so that it overlaps the first by just a few inches. Insert a nail through both pieces to connect them together. Move down the piece and insert nails every 12 inches just like for the previous piece. Continue down the roof in the same manner until reaching the end.
-
4
Cut the piece of metal roof edging with tin snips to fit at the end of the roof if necessary. Move onto the second side and continue in the exact same manner.
-
5
Move along until the entire perimeter of the roof has been outlined with metal roof edging. Inspect all of the work to make sure no nails are sticking up and that everything is sealed properly.
