Tracking a parcel, which is another word for a wrapped or boxed package, determines the exact location of your shipment during the process of delivery. Some parcel services, such as United Parcel Service, offer tracking services for free, while others, such as the United States Post Office and FedEx, require extra payment for tracking information. Whichever service or delivery company you use, there are two common ways to track your package and verify its current location.

Online

Visit the website of the parcel service you used to ship your package. Common parcel services within the United States are the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx and DHL. See Resources for links to these services’ tracking Web pages.

Type your package’s tracking number into the search bar, being sure to follow the formatting instructions.

Click “Search” or hit the “Enter” key on your keyboard to reveal your package’s tracking information.

Automated Phone Service

Call the customer service line of the parcel service you used to ship your package. The customer service number is found on your receipt, your tracking slip or the company’s website.

Follow the automated instructions and connect to the option used for tracking packages.

Enter your tracking number, being sure to follow the automated instructions to listen to the most current tracking status of your package.
