One of the most obnoxious sounds, quite possibly, occurs when you are trying to relax in an otherwise quiet room but for the loud ticking of a nearby clock. The ticking sound is caused by the movement of the hands. Thankfully, you don't have to get a new clock to silence this noise. Simply install some insulation to quiet the sound.
Step 1
Remove the clock from the wall or shelf, if possible, and place it face down on your work space or table. Remove the clock's back panel and set it aside. You may need to unhook or unscrew it to remove the panel.

Spray the inside gears of the clock with clock oil once or twice. Turn the clock over so the clock face is pointing up, and place it on a few paper towels. Let the clock sit for about 30 minutes to let the extra oil drip out onto the towels.
Step 3
Cut pieces of egg crate foam to fit inside the clock body. Make sure the pieces fill in the body space but do not interfere with the gears and moving parts of the clock. Replace the back panel of the clock and put it back on the wall or shelf. The ticking should be gone or, at the very least, quieter.
