Homemade Penguin Birthday Invitations
A penguin-themed birthday party can be great for children of any age. Making the invitations can be an activity you and your child can do together. Your child will be excited that he gets to help you and the invitations will be more special than store-bought ones. Remember, if you have your child helping to have him use safety scissors or do the cutting yourself and then put the scissors away. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut a large heart out of the black construction paper. This will form the body of the penguin invitation. An easy way to cut a symmetrical heart, is to fold the construction paper in half and cut the half heart shape. When you unfold the paper it will create a full heart.

2
Cut another heart approximately two-thirds the size of the first black heart out of white construction paper. This heart forms the tummy of the penguin. Glue the white heart onto the black heart so the bottom points overlap.

3
Cut a small orange heart for the penguins beak. Glue the beak heart at the top of the white tummy heart. Cut two white semi-circles, two small black circles and two smaller white circles for the eyes. Glue the semi circles above the beak. In the center corners of the white semi-circles, glue the black circles. Then add one small white circle to each black circle.

4
Cut two orange hearts approximately the size of the heart you cut for the beak. Glue these two hearts point to point to the bottom of the penguins body. This forms the penguin's feet. Cut two elongated black hearts and glue one to each side of the penguins body to form his wings.

5
Write on the back of the penguin all of the party information, such as when, where, times, contact information and any other important info guests will need. You can choose to write directly on the penguin invitation or cut a piece of white construction paper and glue that onto the back of the invitation so that the information is noticeable.

Tips & Warnings
Cut a heart needed in each size before you begin to use as a template. This will keep all of your invitations the same size. You can either use a pencil to trace around the shape onto the construction paper or cut around the template each time.
This pattern is for a more cute style of penguin invitation; if you want a less cute invitation you can change the heart shape to an oval.
