Instructions

    • 1

Repackage any food that is stored in cardboard boxes or open bags and store the food in glass or plastic containers with a lid. It is essential to start with clean counters, cabinets, floors, oven and refrigerator if you want to give your extermination effort the greatest chance for success.

    • 2

Mix together 1 part granulated sugar, 1 part diatomaceous earth, 1 part baking soda and a crumbled bay leaf in a plastic container with a lid. Shake it well to combine the mixture.

    • 3

Sprinkle this powder all over the kitchen. Start by sprinkling this in cabinets, behind and under the refrigerator, under the stove, by trash cans and behind any small counter appliances.

    • 4

Observe the interest the roaches have in your mixture. They are attracted by the bay leaf and the sugar and will take the mixture back to the colony where it will be passed around and ingested by a large group of roaches. The baking soda and diatomaceous earth will destroy the roaches' exoskeletons and insides, and they will dehydrate and die.

    • 5

Repeat the application of this mixture in four to six weeks. It may take more than one application to eliminate your roach infestation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Diatomaceous earth can be found at your local health food store or at a home improvement store such as The Home Depot or Lowes. It is similar in texture to crushed pumice and is composed of fossils of freshwater organisms. It is deadly to creatures with exoskeletons, such as roaches, because it scratches the shell coating and causes dehydration.

  • This mixture is completely safe to use around children and pets. It will not harm any creature unless they have an exoskeleton.
