How to Paint a Kettlebell
Kettlebells are a common weight-lifting tool for fitness enthusiasts who follow a plyometric, or explosive, style of working out. A kettlebell is a circular weight made of cast iron with a handle, looking much like a bowling ball that includes a handle. Kettlebells range in weight and are used to build muscle by lifting, holding and swinging them. Kettlebells are typically painted in different solid colors to make their weight easily identifiable. When a kettlebell's paint chips off, it can be repainted to look as good as new.

Instructions

1
Remove the old, chipped paint on the kettlebell by pouring paint stripper onto a cloth and rubbing it over the bell. Let the kettlebell sit soaking in the paint stripper for as long as is indicated on the paint stripper's label.
-
2
Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands and use the steel wool and wire brush to remove any paint remaining on the weight.
-
-
3
Clean the kettlebell with rubbing alcohol once all the paint has been removed. When you are done working with the paint stripper, you can remove and discard the rubber gloves.
-
4
Sand the surface of the kettlebell to remove any burrs or other imperfections.
-
5
Spray the kettlebell with your desired color of paint, making sure to hold the spray can at a great enough distance to avoid the paint building up and running. Let the first coat of paint dry. Paint the kettlebell in a well-ventilated, non-windy area such as a garage. Ventilation is important to avoid inhaling the fumes, yet too much wind is not conducive to spray paint.
-
6
Sand any drips of paint on the kettlebell and apply a second coat of paint, if needed. Allow the second coat to dry.
-
7
Spray the kettlebell with clear coat to give it a glossy finish. If needed, apply a second application of clear coat once the first coat has dried.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid banging the kettlebells together during use or storage. Banging them together will easily chip their paint.
