Instructions

  1. Princess Wand

    • 1

Cut a wooden dowel to 12 inches with heavy-duty scissors or utility knife. Apply a thin layer of glue over the dowel and spread it to completely cover its surface.

    • 2

Position a length of thin, decorative ribbon at one end of the dowel, and begin wrapping it around and down the wooden stick. Press the ribbon lightly so it adheres to the dowel. Overlap the edges of the ribbon as you continue wrapping the dowel and reach the other end. Snip off excess with scissors.

    • 3

Trace a star or heart shape on a piece of 1-inch-thick Styrofoam. Cut along the lines of the star with a utility knife.

    • 4

Pour glitter in a flat plate. You can use just one color or mix colors for a varied display.

    • 5

Apply glue on one side of the cutout and spread to cover it completely. Place the cutout in the plate so the glitter sticks to the glue. Press it lightly before lifting it. Tap the cutout so excess glitter falls off. Leave it to dry. Apply glue to the other side and repeat the process to cover it with glitter.

    • 6

Inspect the cutout to determine whether it is dry. Hold it in one hand and insert the tip of the dowel 1-inch deep into the cutout. You can glue or knot lengths of ribbon to the dowel, directly below the cutout to create a fringed look. Alternatively, glue lengths of ribbon to the pointed ends of the cutout.

    Princess Tiara

    • 7

Measure the width of the princess's head and cut out a 2- to 3-inch-wide strip of foam, thin cardboard or card stock to fit over it, along with an additional 1-inch for seam allowance. Depending on personal taste, leave the top of the headband or tiara level, or cut it in different shapes such as points for an attractive tiara.

    • 8

Paint the headband a shade of gold or silver. Allow it to dry.

    • 9

Lay the headband on a table. Mark spots to determine the position of decorative sequins, rhinestones and gems.

    • 10

Apply glue to each item and attach it to the headband. Allow it to dry.

    • 11

Apply glue to one corner of the headband and join it to the other corner forming a loop that fits over the little princess's head.
