1
Place the cake in an airtight container such as a plastic food storage container with a top and bottom. While it is best to send dry cakes such as pound cakes and fruit cakes, rather than frosted, moist cakes, there are also ways to protect frosted cakes during shipping. For frosted cakes, place toothpicks on the top and out of the sides of the cake. Use plastic wrap or cling wrap to wrap the cake by draping it over the top of the toothpicks--this prevents the plastic wrap from touching the frosting.

2
Place the airtight container or wrapped cake in the center of the corrugated shipping box. If the cake is in an airtight container, tape the container to the box using packing tape so that the cake remains in the center of the box.

3
Surround the cake with balled up pieces of newspaper, packing peanuts or bubble wrap. Use enough the packing material so that it prevents the cake from moving around when it is inside the box. Add packing material over the top of the cake to keep it from moving up and down in the box.
-
4
Seal the shipping box with packing tape.
-
5
Address the box with a black marker. Include the return address in the upper left hand corner of the box.
-
6
Write "Perishable Food" on the top and all sides of the box to indicate to the post office that the package contains food items.
-
7
Use the marker to draw an arrow pointing from the bottom of the box up. Write "This Side Up" next to the arrow. On the top of the box, also write "This Side Up" so the post office knows not to flip the box upside down.
-
8
Write "Fragile" on the top and side areas of the box so the post office knows not to toss the box around or place heavy boxes on top of your box.
-
9
Take the box to the post office and let the representative know that you are shipping food items to Kuwait. Choose the shipping option you can afford that also gets the cake there before it spoils. Pay for and affix the postage to the box and leave it with the post office representative.

Tips & Warnings
If you are sending the cake to a U.S. military installation in Kuwait, contact the squadron or military unit you are sending the item to before mailing. Most military addresses, which may be FPO or APO, do not accept perishable food items.
