Basket drills will help you to improve your golf swing.

Nothing ruins your golf game like a nasty slice or inconsistent golfing techniques. If these things are happening regularly, the issue may lie with your golf swing. The transition from downswing to backswing happens at the point of impact. This should be the point when weight shifts from the left toe to the right heel. Many golfers have the problem of shifting their weight at the wrong time or to the wrong place. Using a basket to practice your golf swing can help you become more aware of your swing to improve your game.

Instructions

    • 1

Position your feet apart and place a range ball basket between your legs. Place the basket open side down on the ground.

    • 2

Plant your left foot on top of the basket. Slowly draw your chosen golf club up as you normally would to swing. Feel the tilt of your body with your left foot on the basket.

    • 3

Take a few practice swings with your left foot still on the basket. Notice how your right foot takes the force during the downswing and how your body wants to shift weight as you approach impact with the ball. Having your left foot on the basket exaggerates your normal tendency to shift your weight to the right foot when you are on the back swing and have your left foot implemented during the downswing.

Remove the basket and try some practice swings. Pay attention to how your body shifts to the right without the need to slide to the side. If you are still sliding to the side, try the basket drill a bit more until you feel comfortable with the swing.
