Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of woven polyester measuring 2 feet by 3 feet, or another size in 2:3 ratio. Woven polyester is a durable material that can be exposed to the outdoors and different weather conditions.

    • 2

Fold over 1/2 inch of material on one side of the flag. Choose either of the shorter sides. Pin the material in place along the edge so that you create a loop for the pole to go into.

    • 3

Sew down the side of the loop with the sewing machine. Follow the line of pins to sew in a straight line.

    • 4

Sew on top of the seam you created in Step 3 again to strengthen the loop which holds the pole in place, then remove all of the pins.

    • 5

Paint a blue triangle with the left edge of the flag (where the loop for the pole is sewn) as the base of the triangle, with the point facing into the center of the flag. It should take up one third of the flag. Leave a white star-shaped area clear in the triangle's center.

    • 6

Add three horizontal red stripes across the body of the flag. These start from the sides of the triangle and reach across to the the right hand side of the flag. Distribute them evenly from top to bottom, leaving two white stripes in between the three red stripes.

    • 7

Leave the flag to dry and then turn it over. Repeat steps 6 and 7 so the Puerto Rican flag design is visible on both sides of the flag, then leave this side to dry too.

    • 8

Insert the flag pole into the loop created during steps 2, 3 and 4. The pole fits tightly inside the loop so that it is secure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Secure the flag to the pole by applying glue to the pole before you feed the flag over it.
