Nylon Net Scrubbie Crochet Instructions

Nylon Net Scrubbie Crochet Instructions thumbnail
Nylon netting, which is sold by the yard, can be easily crafted into a dishwashing scrubber.

Pot scrubbers are a kitchen necessity. They are also simple and inexpensive to make by hand using the basics of crochet and some abrasive netting. The netting is available at local fabric stores and online. You can make a few scrubbies to use in your kitchen or make several to give as gifts.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase your netting at a local craft store or online. Be sure to buy the thicker, more abrasive netting and not tulle. Tulle will not hold up to the abuse of dishwashing. One yard of netting will be enough to crochet three or four scrubbies.

    • 2

Fold the netting into a long, thin piece that will be easy to cut. Hold it together using clothespins or clasps.

    • 3

Cut the netting into strips that are approximately 2.5 inches long. Do not worry about having your measurements exact. It is fine if some are slightly wider or thinner than others.

    • 4

Tie the strips together using simple double knots, creating one long strip of netting.

    • 5

Wind the long strip of netting into a ball, either by hand or by using a mechanical yarn winder. You will use this ball of netting the same way as you would use a skein, or ball, of yarn.

    • 6

Choose a size I or J crochet hook for this project.

    • 7

Chain, or cast on, 18 stitches. This will create a scrubbie that is about 4.5 inches wide. Chain more stitches if you want a wider one; cast on fewer stitches if you would like a scrubbie that is narrower.

    • 8

Turn and single crochet in each stitch.

    • 9

Turn again and single crochet in each stitch.

    • 10

Repeat turning and single crocheting in each stitch until your piece measures about 2 to 3 inches long.

    • 11

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use different colored netting for a variety of looks.

  • Experiment with sizing and determine which size works best for you.

  • These are great items to sell at craft fairs.
