How to Switch From Accounting to Finance
Accounting and finance are a lot like editing and writing. Accounting is the study of financial rules and regulation. It is the language of finance and is more concerned with parameters than interpretation. Finance is about interpreting the numbers within the context of accounting. Having a background in both is a great way to improve your resume. However, finding an opportunity to switch from accounting to finance may prove to be a challenge. It depends on the organization and the situation.

1
Brush up on your finance or take classes. Most accounting students have to take a few classes in finance, but it may have been a while since you've seen or heard the terminology. Take classes in corporate finance and financial statement analysis.
-
2
Develop an understanding for how accounting and finance interrelate in your organization. Determine the line between finance and accounting and look at the organization chart for finance to determine the difference in leadership (if any).
-
-
3
Identify a particular role you want. Find a job description and work on matching your skill set to the job description.
-
4
Request an informational interview with someone in the role you want. Ask the person about a typical day on the job and what skills he thinks are essential to learning the job.
-
5
Apply for a job through human resources. Include on your resume all classes taken and gear the cover letter directly to the role you want.
