Instructions for a Sock Corsage

Instructions for a Sock Corsage thumbnail
Turn simple baby socks into a lacy corsage.

Whether it's for the first baby or the fourth, most moms-to-be appreciate friends and family throwing a baby shower for them. While party supply companies offer many kinds of flowers and decorations for the celebration, many people would rather make their own personalized decorations. One of the most striking homemade items you can make is a corsage for the expectant mother crafted from a lacy baby sock. Make one for mom and some for the grandmothers-to-be, to help single out the special women on this special day.

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the sock cuff so the lace is at the very top of the sock. Lay the sock in front of you with the lace cuff at the top and the heel aimed toward your left hand. The sock with be at an angle with both ends aiming toward the right.

    • 2

Roll the sock tightly beginning at the toe. When you get to the heel, keep tightly rolling the upper edge, which is the edge away from the back of the heel. This will cause the rosebud to blossom out somewhat. Keep rolling the rose all the way to the top.

    • 3

Hold the rolled rosebud tightly and pull the open sock top over the bud, trapping the rolled sock inside. You now have a rolled sock rosebud with the outer layer of sock material and lace.

    • 4

Pinch the bottom of the rolled sock and wrap it with a 3-inch piece of florist wire. Wrap this wire in floral tape, wrapping all the way down to the tip of the rosebud base.

    • 5

Fold a round lace doily in half to create a lacy semi-circle. Use craft glue to affix the rosebud to the middle of the doily. Make a bow with satin lace and glue it to the bottom of the rosebud. Attach your corsage with a large corsage pin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make these in pink, blue or white for a traditional look, or try black and white or neon colors for a future mom with wilder taste.
