A food bank is an organization that collects donated food and distributes it to various charities such as soup kitchens, homeless shelters, low-income day care centers and other youth programs. Each state is likely to have several food banks. Finding a food bank in your area is easy to do using Feeding America's online database. This search allows you to research various food banks, where they distribute and how to get involved.

      Search for a local food bank by state using the online database at FeedingAmerica.org (see Resources). This allows you to click on your state to see all of the food banks in it.

      Scroll through your search results. Find the food bank that is closest to your area. The site links to each food bank's website and provides other information about the services they offer.

      Click on the "Contact Us" link of the food bank's website. You can contact the food bank by phone, mail or in person using the contact information provided by the website.
