How to Paint Diamond Patterns
Diamond shapes represent elegance, royalty and splendor. Diamonds are a popular choice for including in borders, as a wall focal, and as accents in random areas on a wall or countertop to add interest. Whether you want to depict a diamond pattern across the entirety of a wall or multiple walls in your home, or on any other surface, you can with a few basic painting supplies.
Things You'll Need
- Drop cloth
- 220-grit sandpaper
- Concentrated cleaner
- Rag
- 1 gallon primer
- 1 gallon light blue paint
- 1 gallon dark blue paint
- Paint tray
- Painter's tape
- Paintbrushes

Rub across the wall or other surface with 220-grit sandpaper. This helps remove any uneven sections and smooths the surface to prepare it for painting.

Pour a small amount of a concentrated cleaning solution onto a rag and rub it across the surface to remove any dust or dirt.

Pour some primer into a paint tray.

Dip a large paintbrush or paint roller into the primer, and brush primer across the entire surface. Regardless of whether you are working on a wall or other surface, primer helps prepare it for painting by creating a smooth, even base for the paint to adhere to. Wait for the primer to dry completely. This typically takes about four to five hours; refer to the instructions on the paint to be sure.

Tips & Warnings
Draw lines on the surface with a pencil rather than using painter's tape if you want a more abstract look.
You can substitute any two paint colors for the ones used here; using similar paint shades produces a more subtle effect, while using contrasting paint shades produces a more obvious and dramatic effect.
You can find or make stencils to create the diamond pattern; this method is more favorable and custom, as you can decide exactly where and what size you want the diamond shapes to be.
