How to Build a Kite From a Paper Grocery Bag
Kite flying is a favored pastime among the young and young at heart. Most kite fans buy their kites and accessories in retail stores, but some do-it-yourself minded hobbyists choose to make their own kites from common household materials like paper grocery bags. The benefit of using paper bags is one of both cost and abundance, since the bags are cheap and fairly easy to come by.

1
Lay the paper bag flat on a table or other such level surface. Don't open the bag, instead keep it folded flat. Use the hole puncher to create one hole in each of the bag's top corners. Punch two more holes along the top edge, in between the corner holes, and space evenly apart. You now should have a row of 4 holes along the top of the bag. Glue ring reinforcers over the holes on front and back of the bag.

2
Cut two 30-inch lengths of kite string. Thread the end one string through the top hole on the left side of the bag. Thread the remaining end of the string through the bottom hole on the same side. Repeat for the right side of the bag, tying the length of string as you did the first one. Tie the ends of each string together to make a loop on each side.

3
Cut at least a 48-inch length of kite string and slide it horizontally under each string loop. Tie the ends of this long string piece together to make one very large loop, a handle that you can slide your hand into for better control.
-
4
Decorate the kite using any manner of crafting supplies like craft paints, markers, glitter or crayons. If using glue or paints, allow ample time to dry before attempting to take your kite outside for use.
