When you subscribe to AT&T’s U-verse cable TV service, you are supplied a U-verse receiver and universal remote control. The U-verse universal remote control comes pre-programmed to work with the U-verse receiver. However, to make the U-verse remote control also work with your TV set, you have to program it. Programming the remote will allow you to turn on not only the U-verse receiver, but also the TV. If you also want to use the U-verse remote to increase the TV’s volume, you must perform an additional programming procedure.

Program the U-verse Remote to Work With the TV

Manually turn on the TV set by pressing the TV’s “Power” button.

Press and hold the “TV” button on the U-verse universal remote control. Keep the “TV” button depressed while you also press and hold the remote control’s “OK” button.

Release both buttons. The LED lights for all of the mode keys, located at the top of the U-verse universal remote control, should blink twice. This is an indication the remote is now in programming mode. If these buttons do not blink twice, repeat steps 2 and 3.

Enter "9-2-2" on the remote control’s number pad. This is the code used to enter automatic code search mode.

Point the U-verse remote control at the TV set. Press the “Play” button. Then slowly and repeatedly press the “Fast Forward” button until the TV shuts off. Press “Enter.”

Tips

If you’re still experiencing issues concerning the volume or sound quality of your U-verse TV setup, try rebooting the U-verse receiver. To reboot the receiver, press and hold the receiver’s “Power” button for a minimum of five seconds, then release. Also verify that the cables connected the U-verse receiver to the TV are secure. Make sure “Mute” is not activated on the TV.
