Log on to the website Kijiji, a free local classifieds website. Select the "Post an Ad" tab. Click on the "Room Rentals, Roommates" in the "Housing" category. Scroll through the list of ads to see if any interest you. Fill out the email form on the right hand of your screen to contact the poster. Create your own ad by filling out pertinent information in the "Ad Details" fields. Write a title, and be specific about the type of accommodation or roommate that you're looking for.

Select "Rooms/Shares" from the "Housing" category on the Craigslist page for Halifax. Scroll through the list of ads to see if any of them match your specifications. Click on the "Reply to" email address, or copy it to your web based email to contact the poster. Click on the "Post button" on the top right hand corner of your screen, and follow the screen prompts to create your own free ad, or to set up a Craigslist account.

Go to the Roommates.com Canadian site. Click the "Get Started" tab at the top of the page to create an account. Select "I Have a Room" or "I Need a Room" from the pull-down menu. Narrow your search by selecting Nova Scotia from the pull-down menu, and typing "Halifax" in the search box below. Scroll through the results to look for ads that interest you. Note that it is free to set up an account and browse ads on Roommates.com, however you need to pay a "Choice Member" fee to view messages from prospective roommates and their full profiles.
