The Mustang is a muscle car produced and designed by Ford.

The Mustang is a muscle car produced and designed by the Ford Motor Company. It was first offered for sale in 1964 and remains in production as of January 2011. The Mustang enjoys a wide variety of performance aftermarket parts including headers, which connect the engine to the exhaust. Shorty headers are a specific type of header which can be used with either stock or aftermarket exhaust systems and are street-legal in most states.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Mustang's hood and prop the hood in the open position.

    • 2

Disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Wait 15 minutes to allow any remaining electrical charge to dissipate from the engine.

    • 3

Remove the oil pan dipstick tube from the driver's side of the engine to give yourself access to the stock headers.

    • 4

Loosen and remove all connecting hardware for the stock headers. Make sure someone or something is holding the headers in place when you do this so they do not fall into the engine bay.

    • 5

Gently lift the stock headers straight out of the engine bay, taking care not to let them bump into any other engine components.

    • 6

Lower the aftermarket headers into place so that the bracket holes in the headers are lined up with the connecting holes in the Mustang engine.

    • 7

Tighten all connection hardware. Again, make sure you have someone or something holding the headers in place during this step so that they do not fall. Make sure not to over-tighten any of the connecting hardware, as this can damage the headers or the engine itself.

    • 8

Connect the headers to the exhaust system with the two connecting bolts. Note that you may have to temporarily remove the oxygen sensor to do this depending on the year of your Mustang.

    • 9

Re-connect the battery cables to the battery and close the hood.
