Make a Jedi Costume for a Kid

Ever since its original release in 1977, Star Wars has inspired kids and adults to create Jedi costumes for the perfect Halloween costume. Your child will enjoy collecting candy in a long flowing robe and waving around a homemade lightsaber. The costume also works well for a Star Wars-themed birthday party. Best of all, your child probably already owns many items needed for the costume .

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a tight white shirt and black or brown pants for the basic outfit of the costume. If your child's robe will be closed then most outfits will work underneath.

    • 2

Add a black or brown robe over the outfit. Experienced sewers can create the robe themselves and leave long sleeves and a belt to tie around the child's waist. For a quick costume, visit a discount store or cheap Halloween costume shop and buy a basic black robe. If the belt's missing, use a strip of black fabric to tie it closed or let it hang it open.

    • 3

Paint a long cardboard tube, such as an empty wrapping paper tube, the color your child wants his lightsaber. Paint the end black for the handle. Plastic lightsabers are also available in stores sometimes for as little as $5.
