How to Use a Sprint Phone for Alltel Prepaid

Unlock your Sprint phone to use it on Verizon's mobile network.

When Alltel Wireless was purchased by Verizon Wireless, customers with Alltel accounts became automatic customers in the expanded Verizon network. Therefore, if you use a Sprint mobile device on a Verizon prepaid account, call Verizon customer service to ensure that your specific phone is compatible with the Verizon network, obtain an unlock code from Sprint, and activate a pre-paid account at your local Verizon store.

  Call Verizon's customer service line at 800-922-0204. Inquire whether your current phone is compatible with Sprint's network. For example, if you use a BlackBerry, the device is likely able to be unlocked and used on Verizon or another network.

  Obtain the unlock code for free from Sprint's customer service line by calling 888-211-4727. Be prepared to give the agent your IMEI number and email address to receive the code and unlock instructions. The IMEI code is located on the compliance panel in your phone's battery compartment.

  Unlock your phone according to the instructions given to you by Sprint's customer service. The instructions will differ depending on your device model.

  Purchase an unlock code online if Sprint is unable to give you an unlock code. Be prepared to enter your IMEI, billing information and email address to receive the code and unlock instructions.

  Establish a prepaid account by visiting your local Verizon location. You will be issued a SIM card. Plug the SIM card into your phone by removing the battery, then sliding the card into the SIM slot.
