How to Tie a Karate Uniform

How to Tie a Karate Uniform thumbnail
It is important to properly tie on a karate uniform, or a "Gi," for class.

When participating in karate, you will have to wear a Gi, which is a uniform worn by those practicing the art. There is, however, a special way to wear your Gi, as well as a way to tie the karate belt onto the Gi to complete the uniform. Most karate class Senseis will teach you during your first few classes how to properly wear your uniform.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the coat-like clothing onto your body, as well as the pants to go with your uniform.

    • 2

Find the middle of the belt. Place this middle part of the belt by your navel and wrap the ends of the belt around your back and around toward the front.

    • 3

Place the left side of the belt downward while placing the right side over the top, then pull the right side underneath both layers of the karate belt up toward the chest.

    • 4

Pull the belt snugly around your waist.

    • 5

Place the right side downward and then place the left side over the top, then pull the right side end of the belt underneath the top layer of the belt, not both layers as you did before.

    • 6

Pull the belt snugly around your waist to complete the karate belt tie.
