How to Build a Dinosaur for Kids

Build a dinosaur model with your kids.

Kids enjoy making crafts, though a scientific or educational bent might get you looks of disapproval. However, if the craft you make with your kids is a dinosaur model, you're likely to get them on board for the task. Build a dinosaur with your child using a few household staples. Although the stegosaurus is the easiest to create, you can modify the process to make a T-Rex, velociraptor or any other dinosaur your kid loves.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a cereal box in half and lay it out flat with the inside, non-printed side facing up. Draw the shape of the dinosaur with a marker. Be fun and cartoony with it, exaggerating the body and head.

    • 2

Pour or squeeze out paint on a plate. Mix colors together to make new colors and experiment.

    • 3

Paint the dinosaur with your colors. Use a single color or different colors to give it a fun look. Set the dinosaur to the side and allow it to dry fully.

    • 4

Place your clothespins in the paint and roll them around, coating them as much as you can. Avoid over-saturating them, as they can get stuck and be hard to open later.

    • 5

Glue the googly eye on the dinosaur's face. Cut the dinosaur body out and throw away the scraps. Attach the clothing pins along the back of the dinosaur to give it spines. This can be done in different shapes, sizes and color, so let your kids make different kinds of dinosaurs.
