How to Film Something on a Computer
There can be a number of different reasons to record what is going on on your computer screen. Many people record the action on the screen to create tutorials for using specific programs on the computer. To do this, you need something that will "internally" record on your computer rather than the external recording that a webcam does. The exact recording method can vary depending on the exact type of tools you are using.
Instructions
-
-
1
Download and install a screen-recording software program like CamStudio or iShowU. Make sure you know that the program is compliant with your OS -- Mac or Windows. Some programs are free to download while others must be purchased.
-
2
Locate the icon for the recording program -- it was likely saved to your computer's Applications folder.
-
-
3
Open the program and look for a command window to open up on the screen. There may also be an icon appearing at the top or bottom of your screen toolbar.
-
4
Set the recording parameters on your screen using the related command within the window -- particularly the amount of screen space you're recording. The program often includes a capture window that you can expand with a cursor or a "full screen" option.
-
5
Click the "Record" button in the window -- or the "begin recording" command with the toolbar icon if you have that option -- to begin recording the computer-screen action. You may need to minimize the program's command window to get it out of the way.
-
6
Click on the "Stop" command to terminate the recording; maximize the command window if needed. The recorded video may immediately open up in its file format once the recording stops.

Tips & Warnings
The program can have other options you'll need to set, like the volume control (or whether you want to record the sound at all) and the video file format you are recording it into.
