How to Make a Spider for a Craft
Your children probably know the familiar lullaby about the itsy bitsy spider that went up the water spout. You can get them further involved in this catchy song and story by crafting your very own spider and water spout using ordinary materials from around your house. This easy art activity is an ideal one for a rainy afternoon when you need to keep your children entertained and inspired. Encourage them to be creative with the materials you have available for the craft.
Things You'll Need

1
Unroll the tin foil roll. Place the empty paper towel roll at the edge and roll the foil around the tube. Tuck the foil into each end of the paper foil roll. This is the water spout.
-
2
Wrap black yarn around an old CD case about 20 or 30 times. Then, slide the yarn off of the case.
-
-
3
Cut the loops on each end of the yarn with scissors.
-
4
Cut a single egg cup from a cardboard carton. Squeeze glue into the cup and place the yarn across the top. Press the yarn into the glue. Let the glue dry.
-
5
Cut nine 8-inch long by 1/2-inch wide strips of black paper and fold them accordion style. These are the spider legs. Tape or glue the legs to the bottom of the egg carton.
-
6
Glue the googly eyes onto the spider's face.
-
7
Cut a piece of yarn that is about 24 inches long. Tape the end of the yarn to the bottom of the spider. One person will hold the spout. Then another person will slip the other end of the yarn through the tin foil roll. Your child will pull the yarn through the top of the paper towel roll so that the spider will "climb" the spout.
