How to Remove Clothing Dye Stains From a Bra

Improperly laundering colored garments can cause dyes to transfer onto bras.

Washing or drying a bra with other bright colored garments can cause it to become stained with dyes from the other fabrics. Clothing dye stains can ruin a bra's appearance, especially if the dyes are extremely discernable on the bra. Promptly treat clothing dye stains before they permeate fabric fibers and become increasingly strenuous to remove. If neglected, clothing dyes can permanently stain a bra.

Things You'll Need

• Clean bucket
• Water
• Packaged powdered color remover
• Wooden spoon
• Laundry soap
• Wash machine

Instructions

1. Fill a clean bucket with 4 gallons of the warmest water safe for the bra. Dissolve a packaged powdered color remover in the water. Thoroughly mix the color remover until the power completely dissolves in the water.

2. Submerge the white or colorfast bra in the solution. Soak the bra in the solution for the time frame advised by the color remover manufacturer. Occasionally stir the bra in the solution using a wooden spoon.

3. Rinse the bra with warm water to wash out the solution.

4. Inspect the bra for remaining dye stains. If stains remain, continue soaking the bra in the solution according to the color remover manufacturer's instructions.

5. Launder the bra with laundry soap in a wash machine according to the directions listed on the bra's care tag.

Tips & Warnings

• You can substitute chlorine bleach for the powdered color remover if the bra is completely white.

• Prevent clothing dye stains by washing colored fabrics separate from white fabrics.

• Do not soak non-colorfast bras in the powdered color remover solution; they may become discolored. Soak non-colorfast bras in oxygen bleach.
